Sarah Davey Chesters recently accepted an appointment as lecturer in the Faculty of Education, University of Southern Queensland. She has held various tertiary teaching and research positions in the area of ethics, philosophy and critical thinking at the University of Queensland, Ipswich Campus. She is also a qualified Early Childhood teacher.
Sarah is currently completing her doctorate at the University of Queensland. Her thesis titled ‘Engaging through Dialogue: Philosophy in Practice’ is near completion. It explores a variety of methods of philosophical inquiry in the tradition of Socrates, chiefly Matthew Lipman’s Community of Inquiry, Leonard Nelson’s Socratic Dialogue and David Bohm’s Dialogue. In particular it looks at critical, creative and caring thinking through these inquiry methods.
Her most recent publication is ‘Consensus, Care and Community’ in Analytic Teaching, and she has also published in Critical and Creative Thinking and The Social Educator. Sarah has presented at various conferences on philosophy as pedagogy, in Australia and internationally, including Berlin and Oxford.
